We did it! We are up to 1,126 pages—over 100 pages past the 1,000 page goal I set on Friday.

Amazing!

As we embark on the second week (and first full week) of the Frenzy, let's keep up the momentum. If we do, I think we can totally get to:

1,500 pages by Wednesday!

A few Week Two tips:

  1. Whatever you do, don't give up! You still have plenty of time to finish your script.
  2. Don't take your script, or yourself too seriously. This is a rough draft, meaning it's your chance to play around in your imagination and have fun!

Three days in, and we've already collectively written 636 pages. That's equal to about six full-length films and up to 12 sitcoms. Great job everyone! I am so impressed. I mean, I thought my writing partner and I were ahead of the game with 10 pages, but after poking around in the forums, I found writers who've already written 20. Wow!

This leads me to believe that we can meet some lofty writing goals this April. Starting with this one:

1,000 pages collectively written by Monday

I am totally convinced that we can do this. If everyone just wrote one page—or half of you wrote two pages—we'd be all set.

Script Frenzy has officially begun! All that plotting, planning, and character creating has paid off, and now you're off to get your scriptwriting groove on for 30 whole days.

I've already received a few emails asking how to create a PDF and upload a script to our robot page-count validator, so I thought I'd post instructions on how to do both here:

    How to Create a PDF

    1. If you are using Celtx: Sign into your account and select your script's file. Then select the "TypeSet" subtab found below your script. Then hit "Save PDF."

Note: you must be signed in to generate a PDF.

    2. If you are using Zhura: Go to "File," then select "Download as PDF."

    3. If you are using Scripped: Go to "My Scripts," and select "Export PDF."

That's right. One more day until the Frenzy adventure begins. For some of you (those living in Australia for example), Script Frenzy will start today.

Here is a list of things you might want to do in these final hours before April 1:

    • Find some Post-it Notes: These will come in really handy once you start writing. You can write your character names on one so you don't forget them midway through your script. You can use them to write down bits of dialogue you want to include later on. You can cover your face with them in moments of crazed frustration!
    • Come up with a logline: A logline is a one-sentence summary of your script. Here is an example of a logline: "The president of the chess club joins the football team to impress a girl only to find that what works on the chess board doesn’t necessarily work on the football field . . .

Still having a hard time coming up with a script idea? Are the ideas in the Script Frenzy Plot Machine to far fetched for your taste? If you answered yes to both these questions, we suggest you make your own plot machine. All you need are a pair of scissors, a stack of magazines, a stack of your favorite books, paper, a pencil, and a paper bag.

Start by cutting out any interesting images, words, or phrases from the magazines. Then flip to random pages in your favorite books and write down sentences that stand out. Once you feel like you have enough phrases from your books, cut them out so each sentence is on its own little scrap of paper.

Then put all your images, words, and phrases in the paper bag. Ta-da! You have a plot machine. Pull three items and random and see if you can come up with a plot or a character or maybe just the first scene of your script.

      Have fun!

Wow! That was quick. We reached 300 writers already. A huge thanks to all of you out there who've been spreading the good word about this April!

Hopefully, we'll reach 1,000 writers before April 1. That would be so cool!

Anyway, I wanted to make sure that you all knew about some of the free computer software programs you can use to write your script. These programs make formatting a cinch! If you have a computer with internet access, I'd suggest checking out each program on this page before the Frenzy. Once you find one you like, you can download it onto your computer.

      Planning away,

Okay. We got pretty darn close to our goal of getting 250 writers signed up for the Frenzy by the end of the weekend.

      Awesome job everyone!

I'd like to issue a new challenge: 300 writers by Friday.

To help you spread the word, we've designed these icons for your blog or website and this sleek flyer that you can put up at your school, library, favorite pizza parlor, game store, community center, theater, comic book store, zoo, etc.

      Getting excited,

Help us reach 250 writers by the end of the weekend by inviting all your friends to join in the Frenzy. We've said this before, and we'll say it again: writing is much more fun with friends. And it's been proven that the more people you know who are writing a script with you, the higher chance you'll have of reaching your page-count goal.

So get out there and challenge your friends to sign up. Email them, call them, write them letters, stop by their houses, invite them over! Tell them that is time to stop watching, and start writing!

      Good luck!

      Challenging up a storm,

We received quite a few emails last week and over the weekend from teachers and young writers who were having a hard time accessing our website. Our tech hero, Dan, has fixed what was causing that annoying little box to pop up and ask you for your username and password. Thank you for saving the day, Dan! That means if you were having trouble, go ahead and try signing up again.

If any other buggy things like this come up, let us know by posting in the Bug Report Card forum or emailing us about it!

We did it! After many late nights and long weekends (and quite a few trips to the gas station for energy drinks), the Script Frenzy website has relaunched.

The site may look the same, but a lot has changed. Check out the 100% more awesome Scriptwriting Boot Camps and redesigned Scriptwriter Workbooks to see what I mean!

You'll also see a few changes and upgrades to our forums and your profiles, so take some time to re-explore the site, and please email us if you have any questions or find any bugs.

More frenzied updates and musings coming soon (after I take a really long nap).
